A journal entry from: July 08 - Jan 09

A fantastic historical site of caves, dug by followers of 3 religions (Buddhist, Hindu and Jain) over six centuries, Ellora made for a very enjoyable day of wandering around. I was the only foreigner on the local bus out there and I had a good chat with the locals about the caves. All of the shrines, temples and monastries were made by carving out the living rock from the side of the mountain. A lot of effort over hundreds of years. I like living rock.

One of the caves in particular was enormous and intricate, depicting a huge chariot with elephants instead of wheels. Why have wheels when you can have elephants?
