Athens, strikes and the end of the European leg.

A journal entry from: July 08 - Jan 09

Arriving at Heraklion airport in plenty of time for my flight to Athens I didn't quite know how to react to the 'Cnld' being next to my flight number where I expected 'Check in'. I went to the Olympic Airlines ticket counter, at which a lady informed me that they were on strike and that she couldn't say or do any more, because they were on strike. So that was a little disturbing. When told that I had an onward flight booked to Dubai that evening, she said that that would probably be unaffected and that perhaps I should buy another ticket to Athens with their rival, Aegean Airlines. I went to the next counter, and bought a flight for 5 hours later, thinking that it should still be OK as I had had a 6 hour layover scheduled in Athens.

So after shelling out 100 euro for a connection that I had alrady paid for, I settled down for some quality waiting time. I rang my insurance company - so things _should_ be OK money-wise, but I'll believe that the cover was worth it when I see the money in the bank.
