Dubai

A journal entry from: July 08 - Jan 09

Dubai is an unusual place. Amazing, huge, new buildings, and a million more being built. It is easy to forget that you are in the desert until you step outside (something that many people seem to spend their life avoiding). The airport was quite busy on the inside and absolute bedlam outside, despite the fact that it was after midnight before I got through customs. Fortunately for me, the fabulous OT picked me up and made me feel at home. We went for a tour of the city and ate some amazing Shawarma (perhaps that is how it is spelt), before hitting the hay pretty late. THe next day we saw some more of the incredible buildings that make up Dubai, and I spent the afternoon in a shopping mall/ski field while OT was at work. We then whizzed around more sights, finishing at OT's local, where we played backgammon, smoked a shisha and drank some tea. I had a great time thanks to OT. It was a shame that I could only stay the one full day.
