Boston (Bawston) - New York City

Written on: Sunday April 6th, 2008

A journal entry from: Round the world

13th April - "New York, New York, a wonderful town!" What a great place - we have been having an awesome time with mum, dad, Sarah, Adam and Ram! We've been up the Empire State building, seen the Statue of Liberty, explored Central Park, Chinatown, Little Italy ... the list goes on! Last night we all went to a comedy show (Spencer is now in NYC so he came with us too) and it was really good fun!

Today Conrad 'recovered' at the flat and Philippa went to an Episcopal church with her mum and dad, then they went and explored Tiffany's (no price tags and more pearls and diamonds than you've ever seen!!), an amazing Applemac store, the Trump Centre (marble, marble everywhere) and then we had a lovely walk through Central Park. We saw the Strawberry Fields garden which was designed in memory of John Lennon.
Hope you are all well, we miss you! Will upload the photos when we can - promise! :)
Hugs,xxx

We have just had a great few days in Boston, we started off staying with two nice couchsurfers (Lisa-Marie & Clarence) and their three lovely dogs which was great fun... then we moved in with Catherine & Cara for a few days and had some more fun! It's quite refreshing to hear Catherine's Northern English accent amongst all the American accents! We love you Catherine!
Boston is lovely, lots of history and things to do and see. Philippa's Mum and Dad arrived on Friday (YAY!) and the four of us spent all day Saturday exploring the Freedom trail which was very interesting - some of the highlights were the Old Statehouse where the Declaration of Independence was read for the first time, King's Chapel, Granary Burying Ground and Bunker Hill where Conrad and Andrew climbed the 294 steps to admire the view across Boston!
Today (Sunday) we visited the JFK Museum which was informative and interesting but also quite sad. There was Mum (Julie), Dad (Andrew), the two of us, Catherine, Clarence & Lisa-Marie and also two Australian couchsurfers so it was quite a group! We went to a pub afterwards for a drink which was nice.
Ok, it's late and we have to be up at 5.40 tomorrow in order to catch our train to New York so we're going to go now! We'll update you on New York and upload the last of our USA pictures later in the week. Only 8 days until we're in South America ... we can't wait! :)
Smiles,
Conrad & Philippa
P.S. Marty, you're right, I do all the writing!! :)

Hi guys! This may well be our last message as we've got to sell the laptop- we're broke and declaring ourselves bankrupt. It's rather unfortunate but getting married comes at a huge price!... Oh and then there's your heartless brother who's taken all our cash at poker!!! The honeymoon's in cardboard city by the way....woe is me. xxxxxx

We've just arrived back from a fantastic fortnight in Boston and New York with you two, Ram et al. (It's seeing Harvard, makes me want to talk Latin - I don't think!) We got home at 11 this morning and are feeling pretty tired, so will be saying 'Boa noite' soon. Hope you got to Salvador OK and that it's as lovely as I remember. Enjoy the seafood, the vatapa and the BEACH!!! Miss you loads already. Love and hugs to you both. xxxxxxxx
