Back to a beach resort to relax in the sun for my final three weeks before arriving in Australia. My preconception of Bali was paradise - a deserted far off tropical getaway with a few friendly locals and white sand beaches and Palm trees. Unfortunately, Kuta, the main destination for holiday makers, is more like an Ibiza in the southern hemisphere. I was really surprised when I took a walk around town to find designer shops and bars and nightclubs everywhere. I certainly didn't expect to find a beachfront McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Hard Rock Cafe. I also didn't expect brownish littered sandy beaches and the lack of Palm trees due to the massive beachfront construction. That's not to say I didn't like the place, it just meant my stay here would not be as relaxing as I thought, and more of a repetition of the partying days of Thailand.

I only stayed a couple of days this time around, as I decided to head off to the more idyllic Gilli Islands and then perhaps Komodo to see the Dragons.
