land of lakes - Savonlinna, Finland

Written on: Friday July 4th, 2008

A journal entry from: Exploring the Baltic Sea by Yacht

75 meters above sea level, 8 locks and a day later, Savonlinna was our reward for a hard job done. Savonlinna is in southeastern Finland and is surrounded by water. Its Finnish name means "castle of Savo." The town grew up around the castle Olavinlinna, and looks quite nice from what I saw (which admittedly, was very little).

we only had a few hours off in this pretty lake town to enjoy the evening, so there are only a few pictures.
