Zaandvort and the Beach

Written on: Sunday February 17th, 2008

What do you do on a sunny day when everything in Haarlem is closed? You go to the beach.

Andrea's friends Heather and Derek joined our slumber pary in Graeme's flat after another great day of touristy things in Amsterdam. Some of us were still a bit tired after partying like rockstars the night before, so our Saturday was pretty tame. We took in the usual touristy sites (red light district, coffee shops, canal tour, etc) and had a delicious dinner that night at a restaurant called Bazaar. Afterwards, we made our way back to Graemes.

The next morning was Sunday, and there's not much to do in Haarlem on Sundays because everything is closed. So you go the beach.... Which was perfect!!! We drove there with Heather and Derek, parked at one end, and walked along the boardwalk into the little town of Zaandvort. The beach was beautiful (and cold), and even though I searched, I could not find my idol Theo Jansen and his engineered wind beasts anywhere on the beach

I gave up searching for Jansen as we began searching for food. We were all famished, and Andrea and Heather desperately wanted club sandwiches, so we found a nice restaurant and ate some delicious food. Not a very exciting day by any means, but just what we were looking for.

After we arrived back in Haarlem, Andrea left with Heather and Derek, and Graeme and I were left to our Rubick's Cubes and Arrested Development Episodes. Could a Sunday GET any better?
