Step One: Calculating the Footprint

Written on: Thursday January 3rd, 2008

A journal entry from: A Journey to Reduce My Footprint

So if you haven't done so already, today is a great day to take a few minutes to calculate your carbon footprint. It doesn't take very long, and its interesting to find out what areas of your life are most heavily contributing to global warming.

Afterward, there is a tips and suggestions section that gives you ideas for what you can do to reduce your footprint. Obviously, simply calculating your footprint won't stop global warming, the trick is to take the necessary steps to CONTINUOUSLY be reducing it.

The first thing my fellow travelers will notice is how much our passion (travel and adventure) contributes to our footprint. Airplanes are terrible for the environment, so that will add on a few tonnes per year, depending on how often you fly and where you go. That is my biggest carbon contributor.

So, take five minutes, fill it out, and make behavioural changes in your daily life that will reduce your footprint! If you want, you can send me your footprint number, it will be useful to me for this project (strangers don't be shy!).
