A journal entry from: Europe on a yacht

for two weeks the boat was stationed in rhodes, on the island of rhodes.  tons of tourists walked past the yacht daily, taking their photo in front of the floating prison. (i say floating prison because it is very frustrating to sail past hundreds of wonderful sites, only to be forbidden from stepping off the yacht). the city was made up the old town and the new town. the old town was fabulous! tons of wonderful little shops with beautiful art and jewelry.  at nite we visit hooka bars and sipped ouzo. i had my first international hair-dressing experience. the language barrier resulted in my hair turning a greenish shade of brown, which i was stuck with for two months because i did not get many days off and i wasn't about to waste any in a hair salon.  every day after work, some friends of mine and i would run along the beach for several kilometers, jump in the water for a swim, and run back. after dinner we explored the old town, where everything was open and in full swing until the wee hours of the morning. rhodes was probably one of my favourite places i saw in europe! the new town was exciting too, with lots of cool shops and things to see. the only downfall of rhodes was that while on the phone talking to a friend back home, i was mugged!!! i chased after the guy but he escaped with my wallet, the contents of which only included a $20 canadian bill, 5 euros, and all my cards and personal stuff, which wouldn't have done much good for the 15 year old kid who stole it. i went to the police station the next day to report it, but the guy working there looked suspiciously JUST like the guy who mugged me the night before..... hmmm....
