A journal entry from: Kuala Lumpur
Thailand. is. amazing. Everything you would think it would be. Gorgeous, fun, relaxed, friendly. I didn't get to actually dive into Thai culture and speak to people very much, so I got a very very superficial view but man it was awesome. I saw so many elephants!
Can I just say, that the Thai love their King. LOVE him. He is everywhere, watching, playing the trumpet, wearing fancy clothes. It's really cool. They also love their nation. That's why, when I was walking in a night market buying something from a lovely woman, everyone completely stopped what they were doing. A song came on, and everyone stopped walking, talking, moving, looking around. I will never forget the look on Chris's face when he looked around and realized that no one was moving. I had read about this online. When the national anthem plays, everyone must stop dead where they are until the song is over. It was like the twilight zone! communist twilight zone! And it was so awesome that I got to experience it.
Another thing is that Thailand still seems to have preserved a lot if it's culture, or at least its language. Malay is loaded with English, but Thai has such a different alphabet that I think they just can't pick it up as quickly maybe. And there aren't malls. I mean, I don't know about Bangkok, but Chiang Mai actually felt like I was on the other side of the world, where Malaysia feels like I am just in bizarr-o North America. And their forests are still intact and not covered in garbage.
Another thing that I love is that Thai architecture has elephants AND dragons. It's like the best of south asia and east asia. Anyway, I will let the pictures speak for themselves for the rest of it...
....many things that I saw I failed to take a picture of, but Chris is supposed to load his pictures later so hopefully there will be more.

Too bad you didn't get an assignment in Thailand, it looks awesome. And the sky added such a nice back drop for your pictures. On the down side, Chiang Mai is a little too close to scary Myanmar.
