Rainy day in Kyoto

Written on: Tuesday February 26th, 2008

A journal entry from: Japan Blitz

Alarm was set at 5am. But we woke up at 10am hahahha.. We never wake up on time and today was the latest ever that we woke up at. So late. Ate ramen and rice meal at this restaurant in Ponto for brunch. 900yen so cheap!!! Went upstairs of station to buy a coffee and a donut. (More eating!!!) Then started our half day tour walk around Kyoto. Kyoto is mainly run by buses. So to get from one side to the next you need to catch a bus. There's a map we picked up at the station that clearly shows the paths that each bus takes so very easy to get around. We bought a one day pass for 500yen which was a great deal coz a return ticket is 440yen already.

Caught a bus to Gojozaka, and walked up the slope uphill to Kiyomizu-dera temple. Ran into some geishas on the way, they were fully white. Took a photo with them haha . Paid 300yen to enter the temple but then it started to rain. Derrian made a new friend hahah nah some japanese school kid had to interview a foreigner in english so derrian was hand picked. I paid 100yen to get a joss stick. They gave me the fortune paper. I couldn't read any of it (all in japanese) but i recognised the symbol for bad luck. Crap what to do. I don't evne know... so i folded up my fortune paper and tied it to this stand where everyone did to get luck. There was a love stone that we touched. Hope it bring us good luck in romance! We lost derrian but then later found us from afar.

It was pouring and we left the temple and the whole street (Kiyomizu-michi) that we went down on was packed with ppl and umbrellas. Bought an umbrella for 350yen. I managed to buy a kimono/yutaka set for my mum. So cheap 2100yen! I think we saw some maikos (apprentice geishas) who wore kimonos but didn't have that awful white makeup on. so cute holding a paper umbrella. Hate it when it rains. We walked along to Sannen-zaka which was looked really japanese with old wooden houses and traditional shops. This lead to another street called Ninen-zaka with historical houses to Ishibei-koji, another nice street of traditional restaurants and shops. We passed by the entrance to Kodai-ji temple but didn't go in coz we were sick of temples already and it was raining. Got out to the main street and bused to Nijo Castle but that closed at 5pm. We got the Nijo castle 5.30ish and walked 3 sides of the castle to the entrance. Its quite big. Surrounded by water and high rise walls.

Bus in the rain to Kyoto station and shopped in Ponto. The girls and boy head in separate ways and met back at the hotel. We went into Ibestan department store to buy food for dinner. Sushi, noodle, rice packs all on sale coz of closing time. I bought a rice box + 2 dessert puffs + fried potato + rice filled tofu pocket. All came down to less than 900yen in total. SO CHEAP! Went into Lawson convenience store to buy drinks. Took all the food back to our room and ate there. So comfy on a rainy night!

We wanted to transfer photos but there's something weird with the computers - couldnt transfer. Its coin operated. So it only turns on if you put money in. I did something naughty and Derrian was disgusted ahhahahaha.... Went into the living room in the lobby. Room filled with travel books and even a diary that you can leave comments for guests. There was a free kimono lying around so i tried it on. Went back upstairs to sleep and the toilet was blocked by Cat and Mimi. The water wouldn't flush hahaha...

The most laziest day ever: we woke up late at 10am then slept early at 11pm.
