Mykonos and Petros

Written on: Sunday May 27th, 2007

A journal entry from: Blitz the Med

Next stop on the Med... Greece. Mykonos to be more specific, which is a wicked little island off the mainland. Its famous for its white-washed plaster buildings and windmills. My mom had been to Mykonos when she was in her twenties with my aunt and had loved it so we had to see for ourselves.

Greece, well Mykonos anyways, is quite a bit more relaxed then all the other EU places we had been too. The island seems to be almost completely devoid of vegetation, with rolling hills, white buildings, and narrow roads, its quite a sight.

We took a taxi across most of the island, away from all the tourists, and ended up at a nice secluded beach for the day. Nothing much to say, I drank beer in the sun and had a phenominal greek lunch. The calimari was particularly excellent! :)

After dinner we went back to town and explored for a bit. The official "mascot" of Mykonos is a pelican named Petros and we actually stumbled into him, and a group of his buddies lounging around by a church in the middle of town. You could even pet them. Beautiful birds.

We finished the day by doing a little shopping around town and enjoying the sunset with some olives and red wine.
