Monte Carlo, Monaco

A journal entry from: Blitz the Med

Monte Carlo is the richest part of the small city-state of Monaco. Known for riches, famous people, gambling and its plethora of resident James Bonds, Monte Carlo is a playground for the wealthy. The port is filled with GIANT boats, most notably the Finance Minister of Saudi Arabia's boat, and very fancy cars. You think its a sterotype but a majority of the cars are Ferraris, Maseratis, and Ducatis ripping around the streets.

While we were there they were setting up for the Monaco F1 Grand Prix which was happening a week afterwards. Its a pretty famous race if you're into car racing... i am not.

The casino in Monte Carlo is probably the most famous but it has a strict jacket and tie dress code and being the vagabond that I am, I was not aptly dressed.

I was able to go see the Prince's Palace at the top of Monte Carlo which is the oldest part of the city, built as a fortress perched high on a hill, it has amazing views of the rest of Monte Carlo and the ocean. We watched the changing of the guards which I recommend you not go see as it is very anti-climatic, but the sights and walking around the old-town and the Cathedral are cool to see.
