Early Morning Ferry

A journal entry from: Easter Long Weekend '07

Well we didn't start off with the best of luck. I woke up around 5:30 to get everything ready for so we could make it to the 7am ferry... but someone slept through his alarm so we had to take the 9am ferry. Turns out this was more then ok because I went back to sleep for a couple hours and loved it.

Anyways, 7:30 rolled around and Alan and Avril showed up with a delicious coffee for me and away we went. I live somewhat close to the ferries and it wasn't busy yet. Sometimes the ferry lineups can get vicious, especially long weekends, but the 9am was early enough.

The ferry ride was pretty uneventful. It was a beautiful morning so we sat outside for awhile in the sun, took pictures with the seagulls, and played an intense game of 31. Alan lost and as punishment, we had to eat a packet of mustard. Apparently Alan hates mustard with a passion, like hates it so much its weird. Anyways, he was successful in delaying the mustard eating until much later that day but his day of rekoning would soon arrive.

We got off the ferry and made the 2 hour trip up the coast, through Sooke (snooke), past the tsunami danger areas (poor Jordan River), and into Sombrio at the heart of the Juan de Fuca Trail.
