Railay Beach

A journal entry from: South East Asia 2005

After Phuket, and on our way back to the Gulf of Thailand, we stopped at the climbing mecca, Railay Beach.

Railay was a spectacular site, set on a little cove around the corner from and surrounded by huge limestone spires, but it is also very famous for its world class climbing, and therefore, expensive. We looked for a cheap place but ended up having to stay across the bay on the "Hippie Beach" (I think it was called Ton Sai Beach), that was less awesome. It had a crappy beach and it was harder to get around but much cheaper. If you zoom in on the map, you can see the brighter white beach further south is Railay, and the marker where we were.

We didn't stay long, we didn't have the money or gear to go climbing so left after staying only a few days.
