FC Barcelona!!

A journal entry from: Blitz the Med

I knew what day we'd be arriving in Barcelona I checked and lo' and behold, FC Barcelona was playing that day! Hurray!

Note: For the rest of this journal, I will be referring to soccer as football, because thats what it actually is.

We arrived in Barcelona and sorted ourselves out with hotel/food etc. Wandered around Las Ramblas (i'll post about that in another blog), and picked up our tickets for the big game. Well big for me, they were playing Real Betis, which is a lower-mid level team so it wasn't too big a deal.

Tickets include a bus to the game, so we assembled at our pick up location, which seemed like it was the pick up for english speaking people because everyone was British, no Spanish, which I thought was weird. Since nobody spoke good Spanish we didn't really know if we were all in the right place but the bus came eventually and we all piled in.

Camp Nou is one of the newest, largest stadiums in the world (3rd biggest) and was quite a sight to see. There was literally an ocean of people everywhere, blowing horns, waving flags, etc. We made our way to the stadium and inside and were pleased to find out we had awesome seats, at the end, but pretty good considering.

I won't get into the details of the game, but it was pretty exciting. Ronaldhino, one of my favourite players, scored a penalty within the first 4 minutes, and there was tons of action all game. At the VERY end of the game, Real Betis scored on a tricky, quick drop free kick when Barcelona was still setting up. Suffice to say the crowd was not stoked and the game ended in a draw, 1-1.
