Hanoi, Viet Nam

A journal entry from: S/E ASIA March, 2011

We finally reached Hanoi on March 26th, a crazy, busy city that we really enjoyed last time we were here and where we had met some wonderful people. The weather was much cooler here than usual for this time of year, but much warmer than the mountainous north, and very comfortable for walking and exploring. And, in spite of the global recession and soaring inflation, it seems to be booming here -lots of construction everywhere -more development and higher prices than 3 years ago, and busy, busy, busy. We returned to our favourite Guesthouse in the Old Quarter, the Hanoi Blue Sky, and we visited with our favourite receptionist/tour consultant, Kim, who now worked at a "sister guesthouse" down the street. The next day our good friend, Quyen, came to greet us and took us to the home of our other friend from 3 years ago, Hao, to visit with her and her new 7month old baby boy. And the day before we left Quyen took us to the wedding of her friend, Thao and we were honoured to be included in all of the formalities and a wonderful dinner. A very special treat. In addition to all of that, we did our usual extensive walking and exploring of the city and its sights, had much amazing food, and were happy to be in one place for 4 days before starting our journey home. We were sorry to leave Hanoi and VietNam.
