Chiang Rai, Thailand

Written on: Sunday December 16th, 2007

A journal entry from: South-East Asia, 2007

As we finally leave beautiful Laos, we're looking forward to a short but good time in Thailand.  We took a bus from Luang Nam Tha to the Lao border-town of Huay Xai, and crossed the Mekong river for the last time, arriving in the Thailand town of Chiang Khong.  There we immediately caught another bus to Chiang Rai where we stayed for one night en route to Chiang Mai.

As soon as we entered Thailand the differences between it and Lao were so evident -the relative affluence of Thailand and its more developed infrastructure.  Also the climate and countryside changed dramatically from the lush, green jungle hills of Lao to a drier, hotter, more open pastoral wide valley in Thailand.  In addition the cool mornings of Lao were left behind, and the Thailand heat and humidity were upon us.
