Dalat, Viet Nam

Written on: Monday November 5th, 2007

A journal entry from: South-East Asia, 2007

Dalat is a mountain city in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, renowned as a honeymooners holiday destination, and unique waterfalls, Montaignard hill-tribe people, and coffee & silkworm industries.  Upon arrival we were met immediately by two of the famous "Easy Riders" -a club of back-country motorcycle guides who speak good English.  We booked a very interesting day-tour through the surrounding countryside, visiting and learning about sites and history of the area and its role in the "American War".  We also visited a pagoda (learing about Buddhism), a coffee plantation, silk factory, one of the many famous waterfalls, a farm family with a rice-wine still (which we got to sample), a former VietCong commander who talked about the war, a Montaignard village, and a famous architecturally bizarre "crazy house" in the city.  It was a full day well worth the tour price and fun to experience on the back of vintage motorcycles.

We left on the bus the next day down through the jungled mountains of Central Vietnam for Saigon.
