Nha Trang, Viet Nam

Written on: Saturday November 3rd, 2007

A journal entry from: South-East Asia, 2007

After another all-night bus ride from Hoi-An, we arrived in Nha Trang at 6:00am and promptly got another awesome, balcony room for $9/night, and slept for a few hours.  This is a seaport/tourist city of approximately 320,000.  Due to the continuing monsoon rains the streets are more full of water than people, but the hotel-lined streets attest to very busy times in-season.  The 6 km. beach is clean and empty at this time, but instead of lolling in the sun we splash around the city in our rain ponchos and water shoes.  We did have a really fun day taking a boat tour of 4 offshore islands, including snorkelling, onboard seafood lunch and entertainment, aquarium tour and guide ($6ea).  The weather cleared just enough for us to enjoy an hour of great snorkelling viewing fantastic coral reefs and colourful fish.  (A small fee is collected to help maintain the protected-reef area.)  In spite of the ensuing torrential downpours a good time was had by all.

Tomorrow we head for Dalat - see you there.
