Back in Hanoi

Written on: Thursday October 25th, 2007

A journal entry from: South-East Asia, 2007

We spent another few days back in Hanoi, sightseeing and visiting people.  Particularly enjoyable was time that we spent with a young, Vietnamese woman, Quyen, whom we met in SaPa;  Over the next three days she and her friends, Hao and Tam, toured us around on their scooters and showed us great hospitality.  They took us to the Museums of Literature and Ethnology, and took us for traditional Hanoi dishes -BunCha and Hot Pot.  We also had a short but delightful visit with an old friend of Patrick Quinn-Young, a Mrs. Nhi, who presented us with a special book to take to Patrick.  These, and all of the wonderful people we've met in North Viet Nam, have been very warm and gracious, and so it is with some regret that we must be moving on for South Viet Nam and beyond on the night bus this evening.

See you there.

I can barely stand my envy and the stirrings that your blog and pictures are bringing to Greg and I. You are reliving our trip for us! You are doing a marvelous job of even trying to explain the chaos of Hanoi, the beauty of Halong Bay and the splendour of SaPa all having such BEAUTIFUL people and scenery! But what I really marvel about is your courage to actually ride on the back of a scooter through the confusion of it all! Yikes!

Hi Ben and Deb, We go over all your blogs when mom comes for dinner. She is quite amazed with what she is seeing on the computer. As she says "it is mind bogalling (sp?)" We are soooo enjoying the entries on the blog. Your pics are fantastic! You both look so happy and we truly see how much you are enjoying your trip. We are all well here. Sylvia and Francis started their trip to Montreal via US. They had a wonderful night with Ryan and Mary Beth. We send our love.
