Luang Prabang, Laos

A journal entry from: Southeast Asian Adventures!

I decided to head up north to Luang Prabang with Pippa, Zoya, Negar and Alex. After meeting such great people, I didn't want to part with them just yet. Although this meant taking a bus from Luang Prabang back to Vientiane, then a bus from Vientiane to Hanoi a few days later.

Everyone I had met who'd been to Luang Prabang though it was an amazing town. I did enjoy it, but found it to be a lot busier and louder than I had anticipated. Still, I had a fun time there browsing the night market, sitting in quaint cafes and just taking it easy. We were all too tired and lazy to do much sight seeing. I guess after 7 months of traveling I'm 'templed out.' But we did the make effort to go to a huge waterfall about an hour outside of the city. The waterfall was amazing, and the 5 of us climbed a mudslide to get to the top for a great view.

Luang Prabang has an 11:30pm curfew, and the only thing open past that is the local bowling alley (random). So we did end up there one night, drinking Beer Laos and showing off our bowling skills (of which I have none).

It was sad to say good bye to Negar, Pippa and Zoya, who were heading to Chiang Mai, and also to Alex, who was heading to Cambodia. That's the one downside to traveling - meeting so many great people for too short a time, and all of the good byes that follow.
