Vientiane, Laos

Written on: Tuesday July 22nd, 2008

A journal entry from: Southeast Asian Adventures!

After KL, Vientiane seemed like a very quiet city. Located on the Mekong River, Vientiane is the capital of Laos with a population of only approximately 200,000. Vientiane is lacking the skyscrapers, shopping malls and hectic traffic of most Southeast Asian capital cities, giving Laos the reputation of being the most laid-back country in Southeast Asia. I spent most of my time in Vientiane sleeping (I was exhausted after the night of partying in KL) relaxing, reading and spending time with Kathleen, a South African English teacher living in Thailand. It's currently the rainy season in Laos, and we had a few major thunder and lightning storms in the city, where the power went out and the thunder shook the small guesthouse.

There wasn't too much to do in Vientiane, so after a few days in the city I headed up to Vang Vieng.
