Gili Trawangan, Lombok

Written on: Saturday June 28th, 2008

A journal entry from: Southeast Asian Adventures!

Steph and I took the long route to Gili Trawangan - minibus, dirty ferry ride, minibus, and a longtail from Bangsal (the "armpit of Indonesia") to the small island. It's my 3rd time at Gili T, but the last time was in 2006. Things have changed a bit; the island now was electricity 24/7 and there are a lot more tourists. It's still beautiful though.

Steph and I spent most of our time relaxing on the beach with our newly made friends, snorkeling, and drinking. We spent one day on a snorkeling tour of Gili T, Gili Meno and Gili Air, stopping on Gili Air for lunch. The snorkeling was ok, we saw a few turtles from a distance, but a lot of the coral has been destroyed and bleached. Gili Air had the most impressive snorkeling, but also an abundance of jellyfish.

I made myself a bit useful and took my EFR course (First Aid and CPR) in preparation for my Rescue Diver course. I spent 4 hours with my funny instructor and an Indonesian boy who was my victim. Although the video was boring, we had a fun time with the course.
