Makassar, Sulawesi

Written on: Wednesday May 21st, 2008

A journal entry from: Southeast Asian Adventures!

Makassar was a necessary stop in order to get to Tana Toraja, just 330km north of the city. There's not a whole lot to do in Makassar, and I think the people there don't see many tourists. We spent a day looking around Fort Rotterdam, which was interesting. We also met the Sultan of Makassar, which was incredibly awkward, as he invited us to his private islands. We managed to make excuses to avoid the situation, and thereafter avoided Fort Rotterdam and the Sultan.

Other than that, it was eating nasi goreng, walking down the 'beach' to see the sunset, and a lot of reading.
