La Paz II

Written on: Friday February 5th, 2010

A journal entry from: South America

January 16th - 20th

Back in La Paz we investigated the buses to Peru only to find that there was a bus strike there for the next few days. We decided to wait a couple of days in La Paz updating the blog, exploring the markets and enjoying fish and chips at the British pub.

One thing that struck us is that La Paz seems to be covered in graffiti ranging from murals to tags and also political slogans. The current president, Evo Morales name is everywhere. He seems popular with many people as he is an indigenous leftist leader. However our guide Rigo in Chalalan didnīt feel the same way. He sees Morales as a landowner who is prepared to exploit the natural resources of the rainforest and country to be in line with Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

The bus strike in Peru didnīt finish so we decided to head to Copacobana by Lake Titicaca, on the way to Cuzco.
