Casita De Amor Cafe

Written on: Monday July 27th, 2009

A journal entry from: Cycle Mexico - Panama

July 20th - July 21st

After a lateish start from Macaroni View Hotel we were looking for a spot for lunch and after a short 7.7km we spotted a sign for a cafe, next to the road. We thought that was unusual, to find a cafe out here. We were beckoned in to find a very clean and cosy (heart shaped!) cafe, which looked great.

After having some excellent sandwiches and fruit smoothies we chatted with the owners who turned out to be Sybille and Windell, a German-Belizean couple. They had just opened the cafe a few days before, and we were one of the first customers. It was great to have a choice of some different types of food.

Windell reckoned that we shouldn't continue that day, as there were no accomodations for many miles and it was already past 3pm. They were generous enough to offer us a camping spot in the garden by the cafe. We decided that it would be great to camp there, and we would set off early the next morning instead.

We had a really nice afternoon and evening in the beautiful garden where we spotted large grasshopppers, hummingbirds and lots of other birds. After we had cooked dinner we had a quick shower with the hose in the garden (very refreshing!) and went to sleep.

The next morning we had an exceptionally good breakfast (with cappucinos!) before setting off towards the Blue Hole national park, where we planned on staying.

We just have to say what a great cafe, and a lovely couple we met. We would recommend it to anyone travelling here, it's on mile 16.5, in Steadfast on the Hummingbird Highway.

Total km = 469.7
