A journal entry from: Cycle Mexico - Panama

June 28th - 30th

We cycled 52.1 km from Los Limones to Lake Bacalar and the town. The weather was cloudy so fortunately not as hot as it can be. However we had a big head wind and the road wasn't as flat as before. There seemed to be a small uphill gradient the entire way.... Even though we didn't cycle as far as the previous day it seemed like much harder work.

When we arrived we were pleased to find a nice and clean hotel. The lake (known as the lake of seven colours) was beautiful and we looked forward to a swim the next day.

We found a restaurant nearby and managed to get a vegetarian dish with the help of one of the customers who spoke English. We chatted with him for a while and it turned out that he was an artist from Belize. He gave us lots of useful info about Belize in general and Caye Caulker in particular. His name was Walter Castillo and was currrently living in Bacalar where he and his girlfriend Mito were working on their art. He seemed like a great guy and invited us to his place where we met Mito, had a few drinks and had a look at their amazing art.

The next day we hung out by the lake, swimming in the lovely water. We visited Walter and Mito again to thank them for the nice evening and stayed chatting for a while.

Walter is a well known Belizian artist and has had exhibitions all around the world - his work is fantastic (http://www.belizeanarts.com/wc.html). We would like to have one of his paintings, so hopefully we can buy one from him later when we have a wall to hang it up on! Mito's art is also fantastic and we are sure she will be a famous artist one day too.
