Fellippe Carillo Puerto

Written on: Friday June 26th, 2009

A journal entry from: Cycle Mexico - Panama

June 24th - 27th

The next day we knew we had a long days cycle on the dirt road to reach Fellippe Carillo Puerto. It was extremely hot and we knew we had to ration the water. Fortunately the jungle canopy provided quite a lot of shade but we were still sweating like pigs. On the way we saw two snakes, unfortunately Andy ran one over but didnīt stop to see what had happened (it looked very poisonous)......

After 47.8 km we finally reached our destination. We had used the last of the water 5km previously and were absolutely desperate for a drink. The lady in the cafe looked on in amusement as we downed a litre of water each followed by a couple of juices.

Eventually we found a hotel that looked quite nice so had a well longed for shower. The only disturbing thing about the room was the extra guest .....Yasmin discovered a humoungous insect that looked like a cross between a cockroach/grasshopper/dog that was bigger than my whole hand. It seemed keen on occupying the other bed, but as it wasnīt going to contribute to the rent we chucked it out.

The town feels like a typical sleepy Mexcian town, with almost no tourists. The central square is dominated by a large impressive church, with pancake and ice cream sellers gathering outside. We noticed that there arenīt many restaurants about, and when we go to any we are treated very well. We wanted to stop here for a couple of nights to get our clothes washed and equipment sorted out.

We are leaving tomorrow hoping to reach Los Limones which is about 75 km away. It will be an early start but it is on the main highway so the road will be smooth.

Total km = 278.9

I am very much enjoying following your adventures - all the pleasure for me and none of the pain! Love to you both.

Have you got a photo of the extra guest?

From Andy & Yasmin on Jul 2nd, 2009

I was going to take a photo of the extra guest but was afraid that it would steal my camera ......
