The Beach and a few others

Written on: Tuesday June 23rd, 2009

A journal entry from: El Salvador, San Salvador

I went to the southern coast this weekend to a beach called El Zonte. It was so great to get out of the city, away from all of the pollution and safety issues. We stayed at a very small hostel that was right on the beach called Casa De Frida. I spent most of the weekend in the water, only taking short breaks to drink fresh coconut water or to nap in one of the many hammocks which were strung all over the place. The water was so warm and relaxing, but the waves were harsh and the current was very strong. Swimming was pretty difficult but diving beneath the passing waves was very refreshing. I'm still finding remnants of the black beach sand in my hair during my morning showers. It rained for most of the weekend, and the sun did not even peek out from behind the clouds in between the showers. But it was so great to be in the salty water! On the last day, I stubbed my pinky toe on a large rock and have not been able to walk properly since. It's not broken, but I'm worried that I might have a small fracture or chip in my bone. Unfortunately, there is not much that can be done for a broken toe, so if it is broken I'll just have to wait until it heals. On the bright side, I stayed home from work on Monday and was able to take advantage of the sunny day! So although I didn't tan at the beach, my injury made up for it! haha. Anyway, enjoy the pictures everyone!
