Environment = Living Conditions = Health Concerns!

Written on: Thursday June 19th, 2008

Hi All,

Sorry for the late blog. I just returned from a 10 day camping trip or should I say "camp for children".

On to the blogging material:

When I first moved into my flat, one of the first questions Lindsay and I asked our landlord was are we suppose to separate our garbage? The answer was NO.

There is a good size dumpster outside of out flat and everything is thrown in. However on some streets, I have noticed some other bins, where it looks like garbage (bottles, paper etc) is sorted.

As in Canada, beer bottles can be returned for money, which is awesome because when we do have friends over they bring the beer and leave their bottles so we make some cash! haha. Also Lindsay and I have been saving/recycling our plastic bottles. We plan to come up with some amazing craft that the the children can do for fun.

In general, I do not see much litter on the streets.

I think the the environment is also our living conditions. Camping was quite the experience. We did not have to sleep in tents but rather a building with multiple rooms and beds. 4 adults and roughly 40 children shared 3 bathrooms and 1 shower (the 1 shower was not so bad to share considering Lindsay and I were the most frequent and everyday users, as children just did not shower) . On the other hand,  the bathrooms were not so pleasant. The toilets were disgusting (number 1's and 2's) on the seats and did not even look like real toilets for even child butts to fit on. Lindsay and I would try our best to hold out until after the cleaning lady came but at times we had to resort to the next best option and that was getting up close and personal with the bushes. There was definitely a sanitary concern at this camp!

Ack! I think I would have made like a bear and gone in the woods.
