I hate packing!

Written on: Monday May 12th, 2008

I am leaving for Lithuania in 2 days!

I can not wait but packing is frustrating the heck out of me right now.  I guess I'm not the only one because I read a blog with a similar dilemma. No matter how many lists I make or how organized I try to be I feel I am still running around like a turkey to make sure I have everything.

Ahhh, luckily, on mothers day my relatives came over to my house to celebrate our mama's but in a way it served as a little farewell gathering to spend some time with my family before I leave. One of my cousin's helped me fold some clothes for my luggage so that was definitely a plus because packing truly gives me a headache.

On a side note, I'm anticipating what my flat will look like in Lithuania. My roomie and fellow intern Lindsay finally heard back from the director of our organization about our living arrangements. We are really hoping to share a flat with two separate bedrooms, just to give each other some personal space. However, his responses was one spacious room with two sleeping places, so we are a bit concerned about what this means exactly. Both of us quickly noticed that in Canada, we really appreciate personal space and that we don't really like/wish to share a bedroom..LOL. Could we say a "cultural difference" is going on here? Both of us have never shared a bedroom before. Our game plan is to just go with the flow right now and if we really really hate it, we will hunt for a place when we are there.

Hey, I know the feeling! I hate packing. I always pack way too much or way too little. I've never had it right. Hopefully, you don't fall into that trap! I found that once I packed, I usually dumped it out and repacked, twice. Just to make sure!

Just read your post and it is really interesting how we are so used to having our own personal space that it only seemed normal to have it there as well. lol . well I know some of the rez rooms at york are similar to those living arrangements and people are usually find some similar grounding that allows them to sail through! Im sure you and Lindsay will have a blast together! How have things been going thus far with work and cultural adjustments? all the best aj

I hear you about packing....as I don;t leave until end of May, I have yet to pack. Good luck with sharing a room, I'm sure the two of you can work it out. The trick I have learned from sharing a rez room, is to lay down some common ground rules. For instance, are guests allowed? I'm sure that Lindsay and you will work it all out. I cannot wait to read about some of your future adventures

Hey Alana, I assume that you are in Lithuania now and hope your packing was a success - I packed the day before I left, can you say procrastination? Also I stayed with a friend's family two years ago, where 10 people slept in the same room. Trust me, we can adjust to anything. Keep sending updates, - dhopd
