Cowtown, we have arrived...

A journal entry from: Fishes and Bicycles

After the milkshakes, we checked into the Lodge at Kananaskis to treat ourselves after a job well done.  The next day, we took advantage of the shuttle into downtown Calgary, which follows the same busy route on the multi-lane Trans-Canada Highway that we would have had to cycle.

We then followed the Bow River Pathway from downtown to the 'burbs 20 km south.  (It was the Galloping Goose of Calgary.) We were then able to follow well-marked residential bike pathways all the way to our friends' house.  We were so impressed with the cycle-friendliness of the city.  Downtown, we saw giant bicycle parking lots (packed with bikes) outside of several office buildings.  Not only was I surprised by this but also that so few Calgarians wore cowboy hats.  I only saw one or two, and I think they were actually tourists.

Unfortunately, our friends (Harry, Lindsay, Lupa and Shiloh) were not in Calgary, but we were able to stay at their new house.  (Thanks again!  It was cozy.)  We spent several days in their abode (relaxing, watching the Olympics, reading, etc.), and we bought a Ford Ranger truck.  We packed up and headed back to Kamloops to pick up our keys for our new place and drop off our gear.  I'm actually writing this now from Victoria, where we're staying with Adam's mom and preparing for the big move to the 'loops.  Sorry for the delay in updating the blog, but as you can tell, life's been a bit hectic.)

We hope you've enjoyed the blog as much as we've enjoyed our adventures.  We'l keep you posted on others in the future.

Cheers and hope to see you soon,

Jen

p.s. Sorry there's no picture of the truck.  We left the camera in Kamloops.  I'll try to post one soon.  :)

how funny? Aside from buying lottery tickets in IL, you never left St. Louis through 8th grade. How funny. Good for you.
